On April 27, 2022 Robinson Patman law firm in partnership with an international law firm Hogan Lovells have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with Ukraine’s Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources.
The purpose of the Memorandum is to cooperate and provide legal support for strengthening Ukraine’s efforts in creating a legal framework for recovery of environmental damage caused to Ukraine by russia’s invasion. The parties have agreed to create a joint task force consisting of experts in environmental, international law and GR to record environmental crimes of russia’s invasion to Ukraine and explore legal avenues to recover environmental damages.
Dmytro Vidsota, a Managing Partner at Robinson Patman, commented: "Environmental consequences of war are human consequences in another form. They are often difficult to discern, and they can be very long-lasting. Since the start of the war, petroleum refineries, chemical plants, nuclear installations around the country have been under attack, so the risks for Ukraine and the whole world are enormous. Our main task is to explore all possible legal means that can be used to prevent further environmental crimes and hold russia liable for accrued damages. The cooperation with Ukrainian authorities and international partners allows us to expand our legal boundaries, so we consider all options while working on projects."
